FOR PHYSICIANS

We are excited to welcome you to the Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP), the provider practice of Duke Health. When you join DHIP, you are joining an organization that drives clinical discovery and medical breakthroughs, teaches and trains the next generation of care teams, and delivers high quality, compassionate care.

What You Need to Know

Contracts & Policy Information

Patient Referrals

Please note if your existing employment agreement includes a “Clinical Integration” or other similar provision directing you to refer patients within the system of care with which your employer is affiliated, DHIP will not enforce this provision, and it will no longer apply or be in effect on or after April 1, 2025.  We trust our providers to be confident referring patients within the Duke Health system whenever they deem it to be appropriate – due to the high-quality care Duke Health and its providers consistently deliver – but will not require you to do so.

Employment Policies

Effective April 1, 2025, physicians will be employed by Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP).  Although physician employment agreements require adherence to CHS policies, beginning on April 1, DUHS clinical policies and DHIP employment policies will apply, rather than CHS policies.

Our Commitment

We are committed to being open and transparent throughout this process. We will keep you informed as we continue to make progress and if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Paul Newman, Senior Vice President Duke Health Integrated Practice by email: Paul.Newman@duke.edu. We look forward to welcoming you to DHIP and working with you to deliver tomorrow’s health care today.
